The History and
Mission of Sawyer's Gourmet Pancake House
Welcome to central Michigan's most unique gourmet, all natural and organic, family restaurant. The Sawyer family and friends opened the first "Sawyers Pancake House" in Houghton Lake, Mi in June of 1975. It was Michigan's first natural and organic restaurant known at the time. Back 33 years ago, the majority of people didn't understand the benefits to health and overall well being that come from eating fresh, natural and organic food that is prepared from scratch without all of the added chemicals and modifications... But they do now!
So on March 3rd of 2008 the second and third generations of Sawyer's and friends decided to re-open as "Sawyer's Gourmet Pancake House and Catering." Our first menu, served from March 3rd of 2008 until September 30th, 2008, was the closing menu of the original SGPH #1 (December 31, 1980). Now we offer a brand new menu featuring the finest locally grown natural and organic food there is to offer.
Most of our menu items are made from scratch and
to-order, using all natural and organic ingredients. Our
meats are fresh and never frozen, our produce is seasonally local, and we
feature only Egg-land's Best™
eggs. Our pancake batter is prepared daily from scratch using Westwind Milling certified
organic flours, Michigans oldest operating stone-ground mill.
We
believe in the "locavore"
concept and are attempting to provide meals prepared from the best of
Michigan's natural and organic food
producers.
The goal of our restaurant is to provide customers with the most natural, healthiest, best tasting breakfast, lunch and late night dinners available. The first restaurant was 30 years ahead of its time. Now, with the second and third generations of Sawyer's and Friends, we've revived our dream in Sawyer's Gourmet Pancake House & Catering™.
We are a great food, not a fast
food restaurant. When we are busy, please be patient.
